Let's talk beauty (standards)

beauty standards

We’re always honest and real here, so let's be a little more vulnerable today. Shall we?!

Disclaimer: This is mostly for ladies but men might find some food for thought as well.

How many times have you looked in the mirror and said wholeheartedly that you like what you see? Probably a couple of times?

Well well… it's no wonder that women have a lot of insecurities when it comes to their appearance. Especially when everywhere we look, we see other ladies that seem to have great skin, great body and seem very confident. By now we know 99.9% that's not the reality, however, we still seem to ignore this fact and we still try to achieve that “standard”.

I see female acquaintances who were (in my opinion) so beautiful but still chose to do something with their face/body, and I wonder how did that make them feel, what changed, and how long did it last. Not long I suppose… since I still notice they are using filters over filters to enhance even more what they've already altered. I just wonder why.

But you know what?! It's no one’s business, and they can do whatever they feel like. What I want to address is the deeper feelings of insecurity triggered by beauty standards portrayed in the media - because with everything going on in the world, we barely see people face to face anyways.

Since we’re being honest, I was also someone who thought I should change something on my face as if that would make me feel better. I was in China where ads for plastic surgeries were probably more common than McDonald ads, so that also made me think about it. People’s opinions and other external factors seem to have had a big impact on how I saw myself, until…

… I learned to love myself and appreciate myself being uniquely me. I am so happy that I have experienced everything that got me to this point and I can now say that I am more confident than ever. The traits that I used to not love about me, I now view them as beautiful features that make me resemble my parents and grandparents and also create my identity.

One thing I want you to take from this:

Before you decide to do something with your outer appearance, please please please look inwards first. Resolve the inner conflicts that you have and then, if you still want to make a change, do it. But know that it might not be the solution you are eagerly looking for to solve your deeper issues.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE.
LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF!

P.S This is not a post promoting an unhealthy lifestyle!
