What does skincare mean to me?
For me, it’s a big part of my life. But it wasn’t always like this. Let me explain…
Growing up in Romania, where the self-care culture barely existed for most people, including me, I didn’t pay much attention to my skin as I just embraced my genes as they were - imperfect.
I didn’t wear much makeup to cover those imperfections even in high school, but when I went to the UK, I got to know more about skincare, and my view on self-care definitely took a shift in the right direction. I had started to invest the little money I had in more skincare and makeup, trying to achieve the “perfect skin”. Over time I realised that I’d rather wear no makeup and have good skin, and so I’ve started to dive deep into the skincare realm. I remember I was in China in 2016 when I first discovered DECIEM and Korean Skincare, after having tried some more expensive products that did not deliver. It was my mistake to go after the brand name thinking it must be good. It’s not - at least not in my experience.
Having dived deep into getting to know different actives, harmful ingredients, how to combine products to create a routine, SPF and finding a lot of knowledgeable people online, I can now say that I am pretty confident about my skincare practice. It is not on my to-do list anymore because I can honestly say that the days where I do not do my routine are close to 0 in the past couple of years which I am quite proud of.
My passion for skincare also went further and I took a course at Harvard Medical School about skincare and repair that has strengthened my knowledge since I now have a skincare brand, GOJI REPUBLIC, and I participate in the creation of our products making sure they are the best.
That is not to say that I do not make mistakes and that my skin is perfect. It’s not! Skincare is a journey, but I know I am on the right track and I want to share this beautiful journey with you.
