Start before you think you’re ready
Like this baby elephant at the beginning of a long journey ahead full of challenges and experiences, feeling frightened, vulnerable, and courageous, the same feelings are also shared when someone is starting a new chapter.
These feelings are so familiar to me as I have finally found the courage to start putting my work and vision into the world. Although I have always received amazing feedback on my work from colleagues and clients, I somehow still found reasons to doubt myself and criticise my work to the point of not releasing it anymore.
However, I have become less critical and allow myself to show work that is not 110% perfect. Yes, I expect my work to be 110% perfect. It’s one of my biggest setbacks that I am currently working on. I have recently watched Matt’s video in which he shared that he also had this mindset but overcoming it was the key to his success. “Start before you think you’re ready”, he said, and I really took it to heart. I’ve known some other people who said you should be ok with your work being 70% perfect (it might be Gary Vee who said it, but I’m not sure because I read and listen to a lot of people), but that didn’t resonate with me as it would be a 40% decrease in my standards. It’s too much of a difference that I could not allow myself to fall into. But starting before I thought I was ready, aka before 110%, it’s less specific so I could work with 95/105%.
And so I’ve begun to work on this website and make it to a form that I am quite happy with. I am starting to write more, which was a long-time habit that I want to build. I have also written my first ever post that I am 110% happy with for my marketing account and will soon be working on the marketing website as well. I feel very inspired, and it feels like I am creating momentum that I don’t want to lose.
I want to thank my supportive friends alongside whom I am slowly building my confidence, and together we are also working on a beautiful project called @sezatoareamoderna. A project where we share our personal development journey honestly and transparently.
All in all, I have a very positive feeling about this year, and I am looking forward and embrace everything that is to come.
If you are also thinking of doing something on your own, remember to start before you think you’re ready.
